Threads Fashion Alterations

About Us

"Threads" is not your average alterations and tailoring shop. What sets us apart is that we go beyond the call of alterations to provide advice on styling suited for today's fashions. We are able to do this because the owner and staff are relatively young, but definitely not lacking in skill and workmanship. We make sure our clients are well taken care of; even if it means recommending against certain requests. We take pride in providing superior customer service and professional quality work.

Owner & Head Tailor, Michael Tang

Growing up as a smaller than average child, one of the many problems Michael faced was being able to find clothes that fit him properly. Fortunately, there was an easy solution to this dilemma... he had a mother who was a dressmaker/seamstress. As a trade off for his own tailoring needs, he often worked as her little assistant in their garage workshop. Over time, his sewing skill improved. It wasn't long before he began to show a strong interest in fashion and picked up the trade himself as a hobby. This couldn't have come at a better time, as his mother grew tired of her son's constant requests and meticulous time consuming projects. After all, she had her own deadlines to meet and customers to cater to. And so, the real training began. With his mother's guidance, an impeccable sense of style and an eye for fashion, he honed in on the Art of Alterations and Tailoring. Starting with simple pant hems, progressing to refitting a jacket complete with lining, to ultimately, creating custom pieces. No formal training could have given him with the skills she has provided. Many thanks to Michael's mother, Mary, for all she has taught him.

To this day, she still operates at Hillside Shopping Centre in Victoria BC. Her shop is called, Mary's Tailoring. Stop by and say, "Hello".

"I love what I do and it shows in my service and workmanship. Nothing makes me happier than a satisfied client and their glowing smile of appreciation after a project is completed." - Michael Tang
